How to get to the Ancient Agora of Athens comes down to a short metro ride, a taxi, or a walk across the historic centre. The Ancient Agora of Athens (also known as the Classical Agora) sits below the Acropolis, and every route now ends at the same gate on Thiseio Square.

The Ancient Agora sits in the historic centre of Athens, Greece, at 24 Adrianou Street, Athens 105 55, its official postal address. The site lies northwest of the Acropolis of Athens and at the foot of the Areopagus hill. The Adrianou Street door no longer admits visitors, so that postal address marks the location of the Ancient Agora rather than the entrance in use.
The Acropolis of Athens and the Areopagus hill rise to the south of the site, and Agoraios Kolonos (Market Hill) closes its western edge. The Roman Agora (Roman Forum) stands about 100 metres east, a separate ticketed archaeological site that visitors often mistake for this one.
How to get to the Ancient Agora?
Four routes reach the Ancient Agora, and all of them end at the Thiseio Square gate. Most visitors arrange Ancient Agora of Athens tickets before choosing one of the routes below:
On foot
Most streets around the Ancient Agora are pedestrian-only, so visitors cover the last stretch of any arrival on foot. The shortest approach runs from Thiseio metro station along Apostolou Pavlou Street, about a 5-minute walk to the archaeological site gate on Thiseio Square. The second starts at Monastiraki metro station and takes about 10 minutes. Visitors setting off from another square in the centre head for one of those two stations first instead of threading through the surrounding lanes. Both walks end at the same gate on Thiseio Square, the site's only entrance in use.

Where are the entrances to the Ancient Agora of Athens?
The Ancient Agora has two named access points, and only one of them admits visitors today:
- Thiseio Square gate (in use): the archaeological site gate on Apostolou Pavlou Street, at the square also known as Jacqueline de Romilly Square, where general visitors enter and exit.
- 24 Adrianou Street entrance (closed): the historic main entrance, shut for redevelopment works since 1 July 2025 and still without a reopening date.
Visitors enter and leave through the Thiseio Square gate while the works continue, approaching from the Apostolou Pavlou side rather than coming out on Adrianou Street.
